President Hakainde Hichilema has met with students from tertiary institutions in Copperbelt Province, where he emphasised the importance of youth participation in national affairs.

Addressing the gathering, the President expressed appreciation for the strong turnout and engagement from students and their representative unions.

“I am here to say to you, I have never seen anything like this in Zambia where all student unions are friends of a sitting president,” he said.

The Head of State encouraged students to remain actively involved in civic processes, noting that young people are leaders of today and play a critical role in shaping the country’s direction.

He also reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving student welfare through ongoing initiatives, including meal allowances, hostel construction, bursaries, and skills development programmes.

“We will continue working for you as we restructure the debt and build on the gains. We do this because we love and care for you,” he added.

During the engagement, National Council of Students Union (NACOSU) President Michelo Chizombe expressed support for President Hichilema’s candidature, while Vice President Lloyd Nsonge attributed this support to the administration’s engagement with students.

Copperbelt University Students Union President Given Chipewo also commended the President for policies aimed at strengthening the education sector.
